Wafa Saifi: Spring/Summer 2011 Collection: Plié Poise

Wafa Saifi’s long-awaited Plié Poise Collection is finally here In dainty neutral coloured silk dresses dripped with the more extravagant, vivid colours of the mystical land of the Ganges in swirls across the fabric. More traditionally to ballet’s palette - soft nudes, mauve and grey haze merge, reminiscent of Degas’ sublimely, eternally chassé-ing dancers.Inspired by the powerful strokes and free flowing movement, yet ever-present grace and beauty of ballet, Saifi’s new collection simultaneously embodies the controlled beauty of a plié and the heady airiness of a fouetté jeté. Delicacy and strength; passion and demure sensuality all combine in pieces that are modern yet timeless.

Wafa Saifi launched her eponymous label ‘wafa saifi’ at Dubai fashion week in Spring/Summer 2009. The response was overwhelming – a unique talent had arrived. Since then her collections have been available and sought after in boutiques throughout Dubai and Mumbai.

She started by enrolling at the prestigious Parson’s School of Design in New York. Her time in the city was formative – a stint spent interning at Jill Stuart in the summer of 2004 gave her an enhanced understanding and appreciation for the various facets of the fashion industry, and one that remains with her to this day.
